Pneumoperitoneum after argon plasma coagulation treatment: perforation or accumulation of air in the cavity?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Argon plasma coagulation (APC) is a safe method of electrocoagulation [1, 2]. How− ever, perforation can occasionally occur after the development of submucosal em− physema: contact of the probe with the mucosa, thermal injury, and high argon flow can all lead to an escape of gas through the gastrointestinal tract wall. Pneumoperitoneum developing after APC can be asymptomatic and heal spon− taneously, and the perforation site might not be found at laparotomy [2 ±5]. We have encountered two patients with sub− mucosal emphysema and pneumoperito− neum which developed after APC.

month history of chronic constipation and abdominal bloating. Because of concern about a colorectal lesion, colonoscopy was done and hundreds of small polyps were found throughout the colon, most being less than 4mm in diameter. Some of the bigger polyps were removed by polypectomy andwere found at pathologic examination to be tubular adenoma. As the patient was unwilling to undergo a rectum-pr...

Argon plasma coagulation (APC) is a safe and effective technique that is widely used for the treatment of gastrointestinal vascular lesions. It is considered the technique of choice for the management of these lesions. Rendu–Osler–Weber disease is a condition characterized by the appearance of arteriovenous malformations of the skin, mucous membranes and various organs, typically presenting gas...
متن کاملIn Vitro and in Vivo studies of the Effects of Cold Argon Plasma on Decreasing the Coagulation Time
Introduction Cold plasma is a self-sterilized, painless, and non-contact method in surgeries. These properties allow it to be applied to the living tissues and heat-sensitive parts. The aim of this study was to design a new cold plasma producer device and evaluate the effects of cold argon plasma on decreasing the coagulation time of blood drop in vitro and that of the injured liver blood in vi...
متن کاملSpontaneous pneumoperitoneum in a patient after ventilation therapy.
Free gas in the peritoneal cavity is not always associated with gastrointestinal perforation. The study presented a case of a 72-year old male patient with peritoneal emphysema, which developed after ventilation therapy. Suspecting gastrointestinal perforation the patient was subjected to laparotomy, which did not show perforation. The patient was diagnosed with spontaneous pneumoperitoneum. Th...
متن کاملMassive subcutaneous emphysema, unilateral pneumothorax, pneumomediastinum and pneumoperitoneum after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography
In this paper we discuss a case of duodenal perforation resulting in subcutaneous emphysema, left-sided pneumothorax, pneumomediastinum and pneumoperitoneum. Duodenal perforation is a rare, but serious complication of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). Signs indicating perforation include agitation, tachypnoea, dyspnoea, subcutaneous emphysema or hypoxaemia. Diagnosis can be...
